First International Geosciences Conference
The Geological Survey of Iran, in cooperation with the Earth Science Matters Foundation has organized the First International Geosciences Conference in Iran, entitled "Geosciences and Politics, Economy & Culture in a Changing World". The International Conference will be held on 18 and 19 February 2014 in Tehran and is back-to-back to the 32nd National Geosciences Conference in Iran (16 and 17 February http://nigc.conference.gsi.ir)
This Conference highlights recent changes in the political situation in Iran which impact the position of the geosciences. It addresses the position of the geosciences with respect to politics, economy and culture and will be held immediately after the 32nd Annual Conference which is traditionally the largest geo-scientific event in Iran.
We aim to effectively impact and improve the role of the geosciences in governmental policy making and to raise public awareness of the earth sciences.

The First Russian Seminar on Science Communication
II Russian Regional Chapter Seminar
Tuesday, 25 March, 2014
Moscow, Russian Federation
Russian Regional Chapter of EASE is organizing The First Russian Seminar on Science communication
Registration of participants: by 1st March 2014.
Background Science communication is evolving as a scientific discipline supporting many allied fields of science. Its main aim is to support researchers, authors, reviewers, editors and public to improve their awareness of proper research reporting, science writing and editing. Recent developments in online databases, scholarly publishing and scientometrics have shaped science communication and added value to this new discipline.
It would be hardly possible to imagine the need for such a new discipline even ten years ago. First of all, current information flow, availability of numerous online databases and updated scientific discourse dictate changes in under- and postgraduate education.
The new discipline may serve as a link between science, practice and education, and can improve quality of publications. It can also boost English writing skills of authors from non-Anglophone academic environments.
The aimof the Seminar is to improve communication and editing skills of researchers, authors, reviewers and editors from diverse scientific backgrounds.
Who should attend– academic faculty members, research supervisors, PhD candidates, educators, and journal editors.
Topics coveredby interactive lectures.
Main directions:
- Functional characteristics of online bibliographic databases and research platforms (Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar, EBSCO, CrossRef).
- Traditional and alternative individual and journal impact factors
- Models of open access
- Plagiarism: case studies, roots, software for detection and prevention
- Round table discussion of journal publishing and archiving in Russia and former Soviet Republics
Certificates(12 academic hours) – to be issued for all registered participants.
Invited Lecturer– Associate Professor Armen Yuri Gasparyan, MD, PhD, FESC; Department of Research & Development, Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, Teaching Trust of The University of Birmingham, UK; Chief Editor, European Science Editing (UK); Council Member, European Association of Science Editors.
